You can get to the Arenal lagoon on the buses that travel between Tilarán and La Fortuna or Ciudad Quesada. Others go from Tilarán to Arenal village, 1 ¼ hours, departing several times a day. In the afternoon there are services from Arenal to San Rafael de Guatuso; the bus has a sign that says “Guatuso”, but is also runs through other smaller villages.
