Zancudo Beach

Next to the mouth of the Coto Colorado River, some 15 km to the south of Golfito, it is a sandy beach which is 6km long and has gentle waves. In the extreme south, the waves are large enough to go surfing. There are mangroves in the surrounding area of the river mouth where you will be able to see wildlife such as crocodiles, monkeys and birds.

 

How to arrive and leave

The best way to get here from Golfito is using the bus or the boat. It is also possible to drive from Golfito, taking the highway that passes some 10 km by the Claro River and taking a left turn when you get to Rodeo Bar; you will then need to continue for a further 10km along an asphalt road, the beginning of this route is in bad condition. You will then need to take the ferry across the Coto Colorado river, with a capacity for three vehicles, powered by an outside motor and wire cables, the price 1 US$ per car, the journey lasts just five minutes and it is in operation every day, except during low tide. When you disembark a 30 km journey via a dirt road will take you to Zancudo.

 

By Bus

There are daily buses that leave from Golfito to Zancudo 2:00 p.m, you can also take a bus from Neily at 5:30 a.m and 2:00 p.m and Paso Canoas 2:00 p.m. From Zancudo, the bus to Golfito leaves from El Coquito 5:00 a.m and lasts 3 hours, with a trip on the ferry along the Coto Colorado River.

 

By Boat

The public boats that go to Golfito cost about 5 US$ per person. The dock is close to the extreme north of the beach, on the side of the estuary.
