Puerto Jiménez

To the east, on the outskirts of the Corcovado National Park you will find Puerto Jiménez, the most important population on the Osa Peninsula which is also the entrance to the park. It is a pleasant place, with a good tourism infrastructure; there is also an ecotourism chamber that can recommend guides and they organize visits to the peninsula. In Puerto Jiménez you can stay and eat here paying economical prices; you can also go on tours in the surrounding areas to suite all budgets. You can get here by car and by boat. It is seven hours from San José and the majority of the hotels and places to stay organize trips. You can also get here via water, take a boat in Golfito.

If you have an emergency you will need to contact the CCSS clinic or even call the Red Cross Ph (506) 2735-5109. Post Office and Telegraph Ph (506) 2735-5045 opposite the football pitch next to El ranchito soda. Cafenet El Sol also has an internet connection and tourist information; open 24 hours. Ciclo Deportivo Mi Puerto has bicycles for hire. The supermarket La Esquina is close to the landing strip and Súper 96 Store, on the main road. There is also a gas station.

Alfa Romeo Aero Taxi Ph (506) 2735-5178, fax (506) 2735-5112, charter flights to local destination such as Carate, Sirena, Golfito and other places. You can hire a three seater plane to take you to Corcovado for 180 US$ and for five people at a cost of 220 US$. This last plane costs 480 US$ to San José. It is the only company that offers a 24hr ambulance service to any part of the country.


By Bus

Autotransportes Blanco departs at 5:00 a.m and 11:00 a.m everyday via San Isidro, costs 5 US$ and to San José costs 9 US$, the journey lasts 9 hours. There are also departures to San Isidro at 4:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m.  In San José, departures aree at 6:00 a.m and 12:00 m.d, from 12th street, on the corner of 9th Avenue. There are also buses everyday at 5:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m to Neily. The buses that travel to San José and to Neily travel the 23km to get to La Palma.


By Taxi

To get to Carate, to the south of Puerto Jiménez and the extreme south of Corcovado, you can take a 4×4 taxi that leaves at 6:00 a.m daily. Prices are 9 US$ per person. You can also hire a truck or a 4X4 taxi for about 60 US$.


By Boat

There is a passenger boat from Puerto Jiménez to Golfito that leaves everyday at 6:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m, and from Golfito to Puerto Jiménez at 11:00 a.m and 3:30 p.m the journey lasts an hour and a half: the price is about 5 US$.
