By Car

From Carrillo Beach until you reach the village of Cóbano there is a 70 km road that is difficult to negotiate. In 4×4 the length of the journey is some four hours. Crossing several rivers, such as the Ora some 5km to the east of Carrillo, that during high season can be difficult to navigate even in a 4X4, and because of this it is advisable to find out the conditions of the road and the sea level before you begin your journey. An easier option is to continue from Carrillo Beach, passing by the communities of San Pedro, Soledad, as known as Cangrejal and Bejuco, and then going down the coast to Islita to the northeast or Jabilla to the southeast. This route is 18km long, and there are some very sharp curves.  You can drive along Coyote, Caletas, Ario and Manzanillo beach with a 4×4 –and you can also camp, before you head inland along the Río Negro; from there you will arrive at Cóbano, Mal País, Montezuma and Cabo Blanco: you will also need to cross rivers. In Manzanillo there is an excellent restaurant opposite the beach, they serve international and national meals. From here, if it is low tide you can travel along the beach until you reach Mal Pais.
