The bay is located 9 km to the southeast of Naranjo Beach.
There are many islands in the waters of Bahía Gigante, there are more islands here than in any other area, and it attracts a large amount of nautical enthusiasts. The largest is the San Lucas, with a surface area of 600 hectares. It is some 4 km to the northeast of Bahía Gigante and 5 km to the west of Puntarenas. Until 1992 there was a prison, the most rigorous of the country, known as the Island of lonely men. It is also located close to the Isla Gitana, on maps they are cited as the Isla Muertos because of the discovery of several indigenous burial grounds. There are 10 hectares that that house a type of rustic tourist complex, with footpaths that lead through the forest, a beautiful beach and a salt water swimming pool. There is a small lodge, offering cabins that cost 50 US$ per person, a capacity of six people. There is a bar restaurant on the beach, and there are also boats and kayaks, snorkeling equipment and windsurfing equipment available for hire.
