At the passport control checkpoint, immigration officials will ask you to show your current passport, boarding pass, and minor traveler consent form to digitally verify the necessary travel documents. After going through the immigration checkpoint, passengers and carry-on bags will be inspected by x-ray machines under the instruction of security officers. Please keep in mind the following:
Law AVSEC-002 (LAGS): No liquids, creams, shower gels, toothpaste, bottled drinks, food, lotions, fragrances, cosmetics, toiletries, or aerosols in containers of more than 100 ml (even if the containers are not completely full) are permitted. The maximum permissible size of containers containing liquids is 100 ml. Liquids must be in a transparent 20 cm x 20 cm plastic zip-lock bag, one per passenger.
Banned Items: The following items are not permitted in carry-on bags: • Sharp objects (larger than 6 cm) • Firearms • Tools of all kinds • Blunt instruments• Hazardous merchandise (inflammable or harmful substances) • Batteries, which will be assessed according to number and voltage • Lighters
Electronics and Special Items: Laptop computers and large electronic devices must be removed from bags and placed in a separate tray from other belongings. Strollers or baby carriages, canes, crutches, wheelchairs, and umbrellas (small) will also be inspected. We recommend carrying on only items you will need during the flight and following the instructions of security officers.
Medicines and Special Medical Conditions: Medicines may be included in carry-on bags if they will be used solely during travel and come with a doctor’s prescription in the traveler’s name. In the case of insulin and inhalers, security officers will consider flight time to determine permissible number of doses, which will generally vary from 3 to 4. Passengers with metal implants must inform officers of their condition and submit to a manual check (pat-down).
Breastfeeding: Baby bottles and mother’s milk are permitted solely in the quantities needed for the flight. Additional assessments may be made due to the law on liquids. Infant or children’s food must be kept separate in a sealed transparent bag when passing through the security checkpoint prior to boarding.

Restrictions• Costa Rican citizens or residents: Proof of vaccination must be shown when leaving the country if your destination is listed as a country with risk. • Foreigners: If your origin is listed as a country with risk, you must show the respective proof of vaccination when entering Costa Rica.
Countries with risk of yellow fever transmission (Article 2 of Decree No. 33934 S-SP-RE): • SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leona and Sudan.• SUR AMÉRICA: Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia with the exception of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, when passengers travel exclusively to this geographical area from Costa Rica.
Vaccination Certification Process: Ask for the form for the international yellow fever vaccination certificate at the pharmacy where you received the vaccination and submit this, together with the medical certificate, to the respective health authority.

At present the airport has no luggage lockers. Contact your airline for special assistance during your travel.
When entering or exiting the country, all citizens or foreigners must declare all cash or securities they are carrying if the amount is equal to or greater than ten thousand U.S. dollars (US $10,000.00) or the equivalent in another currency. The official forms must be used for this declaration. These forms will be made available by Customs officers at the immigration checkpoints. (Article 35, Law 8204)
Passengers whose connection at Juan Santamaría International Airport exceeds 6 hours may leave the international terminal after completing the documents required by the Immigration Office.
Items found within the international terminal facilities will be sent to the Aeris Operations and Security Office.

Animals are permitted under the following conditions:
Guide dogs or service animals for people with special conditions (Article 45 bis, Law 7600)
Pets traveling as passengers and meeting the security measures established by the airline
Dogs meeting the requirements of Law 7451, Article 19 (Responsible Ownership)
Unlimited. Restrictions may be imposed, however, at any specific time.
Only traveling passengers are allowed entry to boarding lounges. Parents and/or accompaniers without a boarding pass may not enter the boarding lounge.
The Costa Rican wildlife law prohibits the transport of these items in luggage. Travel with firearms, sharp weapons and/or chemicals is also prohibited.
Juan Santamaría International Airport has Wi-Fi coverage throughout the international terminal. Three Wi-Fi networks are available: Free SJO Wi-Fi by Samsung: Free Wi-Fi for all passengers entering and exiting the country. This network has an advertising video. The connection will remain active for 3 hours (limited broad band).
Premium Wi-Fi by Sitsifi: Broader band network for downloading videos, music and high demand data. Advertisement-free connection. Band width and connection time are subject to the fee the customer wishes to pay.
Professional Wi-Fi: Courtesy network for specific customers of corporate sponsors, which notify their customers directly of this service and provide them with a password.
